Jeffrey S. Ross, MD, is a graduate of Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio and The State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine in Buffalo, N.Y. He served as an intern resident and fellow in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Mass. and was certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology in 1974. Following his training, Dr. Ross served as Chief of Pathology at the Moncrief United States Army Hospital in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. From 1977 until 1989, he was a member of the faculty of the University of Massachusetts Medical School reaching the rank of Professor and Assistant Dean while continuing as research Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts General Hospital.


In 1989, he became the Cyrus Strong Merrill Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Albany Medical College and Pathologist-in-Chief at the Albany Medical Center Hospital in Albany, N.Y. The Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department at Albany Medical Center is a large academic pathology and clinical laboratory practice and provides services to a network of community hospitals, multi-specialty physician groups, governmental agencies, extended care facilities and for-profit regional and national laboratory companies throughout upstate New York and western New England. This program was privatized in 2002 as Affiliated Pathology Services, Inc. with Dr. Ross serving as President and Chief Executive Officer.Dr. Ross has received numerous academic awards, three patents in molecular diagnostics and is the author of more than 470 peer-reviewed scientific articles, research abstracts, three textbooks and numerous book chapters in the fields of pathology, molecular diagnostics, oncology and translational cancer research.


At Albany Medical College, Dr. Ross directs a federally funded research laboratory in molecular pathology. Since 2000, Dr. Ross has been a member of the NIH Clinical Oncology Study Section. He serves on the editorial boards and reviewer lists of numerous scientific journals and is Associate Editor for Basic Science of the American Journal of Clinical Pathology. He has served in multiple leadership positions for the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the College of American Pathologists, the International Academy of Pathology and the Association of Pathology Chairs. Dr. Ross is a member of the Scientific Advisory Boards of the Welch-Allyn Corporation and Tripath Oncology, Inc.


In December 1999, on semi-sabbatical leave, Dr. Ross was named Scientific Fellow and Head of Molecular Pathology at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. of Cambridge, Mass. Currently, Dr. Ross continues to serve as Senior Scientific Fellow for Oncology Molecular Medicine at Millennium and Chairman of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Albany Medical College and the Albany Medical Center Hospital.
