Curser is a down-and-out homeless man who says very little except to curse unintelligibly when provoked. All he wants is a bite to eat and a place to stay warm. The Mouse doesn't speak at all but is always there to help his only friend. In the middle of a sermon, I was drawing sketches in the church bulletin when suddenly the drawing on the front cover of this book sprang forth from the tip of my stubby little pencil. I don't know where the inspiration came from. Maybe the pastor was talking about Jesus caring for the poor. Of course, the mouse would be called Mouse. And the poor, destitute man would surely curse a lot, so he became Curser.

And, having a job where I worked on a computer all day, I kind of liked the double meaning.Years later, my friend Tryke suggested that I draw my own cartoon strip. He asked if I had any existing characters that I could use. Then I remembered Curser and the Mouse. My project for the next six months was to draw one strip a week. The following are the results of my experiment.A word of warning: Readers seem to fall firmly into two camps. They either don't get it at all or they wind up rolling on the floor laughing.

I hope you fall into the later camp and enjoy the macabre but (slightly) uplifting adventures of our two friends-to-the-end.
