In another view of the natural world, A Home Like This contrasts the different ways a home can be: open, sheltered, busy, quiet, sturdy to last, or remade each day. Each spread presents a close-up of the creature whose shelter/home is featured on the opposite page. Animals shown include birds, a snake, bees, frogs, beavers, orangutans, and an assortment of animals on the last spread, including humans, shown below. The poetic narrative concludes that whatever a home may be, it's the place "where we love." The ending makes the leap to the human realm while also showing a polar bear mama nuzzling her cub, creating a cozy, snuggly ending. Nerlove's realistic art invites close observation and is quite huggable.
