In prehistoric times, a race of winged people disobey the Goddess' Commandment. As a result, bigfoot-like creatures called malvans are born to them. The ill-fated malvans can give birth to children of all three races: malvans, sylvans, and humans, but the only children they are allowed to keep are their malvan babies. Their other infants are taken away from them at birth. In Malvan Born, it's Logos, himself a malvan-born sylvan, who has the unpleasant job of taking babies away from their mothers. Logos enlists the help of a human midwife to find homes for the human babies. All goes well until he unwittingly breaks the Great Commandment himself and finds himself in serious trouble. He stands to lose everything he holds dear: His fiancee, his citizenship, even his wings.
