Nancy Scott has been a published poet for twenty years and managing editor of U.S.1 Worksheets, the journal of the U.S.1 Poets' Cooperative in New Jersey, since 2004. Marriage by Fire, which blends fiction and poetry, is her first novella. Author of nine collections of poetry, Scott frequently writes about social justice issues, family, ekphrasis, humor, and travel. Her poetry has been published in journals and anthologies, such as The Ledge, Witness, Slant, Mudfish, San Pedro River Review, Poet Lore, Journal of New Jersey Poets, NY Quarterly, Pemmican, and Slipstream.
Short stories have appeared in Kelsey Review, Anti Heroin Chic, and Section 8 Magazine. Her career as a caseworker for the State of New Jersey spanned decades. She worked in a child abuse and neglect unit and in a rental voucher program helping homeless families find permanent housing. These experiences inspired and informed Running Down Broken Cement (Main Street Rag, 2014). Recipient of a Ragdale fellowship, she has also participated, over the years, in Frank Bidart's Master Class in Poetry at Skidmore College. An award-winning artist, Scott frequently exhibits her collages and acrylics in juried shows. They've been featured in online and print journals and selected as cover images for two of her books. Originally from the Chicago area, she attended Brandeis University and graduated from the University of Chicago with a BA in the Humanities.
She currently resides in Lawrenceville, NJ.
