Gary Seamarks takes a look at the Oxford bus scene and its steps towards all-electric buses with a focus on Stagecoach Oxford. While being the smaller operator within the city, Thames Transit, which trades as Stagecoach Oxford, operates key services in and from outside the city. The Oxford Tube to London is perhaps the best known and operates alongside services from Witney, Wantage, Bicester and Banbury. Longer distance routes are operated in from Swindon and Bedford by other Stagecoach subsidiaries. At the same time as Oxford Bus placed an order for electrics, fifty-five double-deckers were ordered by Stagecoach from Alexander Dennis for use on their share of the city services, the first of which arrived a few months after the Oxford Bus vehicles. This book looks at all aspects of Stagecoach Oxford buses in Oxford and the move to electric vehicles.
