Amy Petrie Shaw was born and raised in Northern Kentucky.Fascinated by possibilities, Shaw has been an English teacher, alternative newspaper editor, nurse, nurse executive, nursing home administrator, and college professor. After 22 years in healthcare, she choose to answer a call to ministry, and obtained her Master of Divinity degree from Meadville Lombard Theological School in Chicago. Shaw was Fellowshipped by the Unitarian Universalist Association, and called to Hartland, Wisconsin, where she proudly serves the Lake Country Unitarian Universalist Church as their settled minister.Amy does not understand the concept of "weekends" or "off-days," and in her spare time away from writing and ministry she is a mixed media artist. Her work is characterized by use of vivid colors and distorted perspective, with bold use of line. She is heavily influenced by mid-20th century artists Barnett Newman, Helen Frankenthaler, and Sam Francis, and often uses thick material applications, layering, and compositing to bring depth and life to her work.Shaw studied with mid-Century Modernist painter and sculptor JL Haley, and with Cincinnati-based collage artist and painter Betty Dayton-Cautley.
Amy resides in Hartland, Wisconsin with her husband Brian "Captain Chaos" Shaw, the Dippy Cat, Nike the Great, Marshmallow the Outdoor Invader Cat, a hoard of raccoons, a possum, 5 deer, 6 turkeys, and her beloved 42-cup coffee urn.
