Vince Daniels, a successful novelist with writers' block, finds himself sequestered to the small coastal town of Danton Bay in the Pacific Northwest. Surrounded by quirky characters, wrapped in the ebb and flow of life in a small town, Vince starts to write again. Everything is coming together until one day Vince stops by the Cannery bar for a drink and wakes up in Renholm House, a secure medical facility in Georgia diagnosed with a bipolar disorder and alcoholism. Vince is told his delusions of life in Danton Bay are a symptom of his disorder. Reeling from his this news Vince is equally stunned to see the familiar faces of Stephanie, the owner of the Cannery bar and Gray, a laid back surfer and his recent best friend, are clients too - and they have no idea who he is.
