Zhào Gan-Zian, former lead assassin of the Empire of Qing, has been hiding out in Lisbon, living under an assumed name for four years. When he is accused of murdering a respected member of a prominent and influential Nihon clan and then stealing a sacred artifact, the Tokugawa Shogun dispatches his personal shadow assassins to hunt him down. Tragedy inevitably follows and Zhào swears to exact revenge, but then, shortly before he is to sail for Nihon-koku, he encounters an old rival and learns that an ancient magical gem known as the KhiMara may be right there in Lisbon. He knows that if he can obtain the KhiMara, then nothing will be able to stop him.
