George Howden is young and inexperienced. In 1966 Costas Tinopolis, a Greek shipping millionaire, and his son Mercator persuade him to front a shipping company in Bermuda. George is shocked when Adrian Cuthbert a tea drinking, high flying civil servant, in a tense meeting, accuses him of breaking United Nations trade sanctions. He realises he has to change from being an obedient minion if he wants the people who have used him brought to justice. George is entranced by the looks and soul filled husky voice of Leonora. Her sister Jasmine is in New York pursuing a modelling career. George offers to look Jasmine up when he goes to New York to find out what has been going on with the ship Ocean Star involved with the sanctions busting. In three dangerous, action packed days George discovers Ocean Star is smuggling arms to Africa and Jasmine, working as a prostitute in gangster Sammy Santino's evil empire is hooked on drugs.

George persuades Jasmine to trust him and helps her escape New York.
