Peter Goin has been travelling to Black Rock for more than 30 years. His examinations of scenery are sensitive and keen; his exploratory eye is poignantly archival. Goin was selected as an EMMY finalist for his program In Search of Ritual: The Burning Man in 1994. In 2005, Goin collaborated with celebrated geographer Paul F. Starrs to coauthor the book Black Rock in which they explore this unusual terrain from the viewpoints of their respective disciplines. Goin coauthored Time and Time Again: History, Rephotography, and Preservation in the Chaco World alongside Lucy Lippard, which was selected by the Pima Public Libraries in Arizona as a Southwest Book of the Year for 2013. His renowned photographs have been exhibited in more than fifty museums nationally and internationally, and he is the recipient of two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships. Gary Snyder is the author of sixteen collections of poetry and prose.

Since 1970 he has lived in the watershed of the South Yuba River in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1975, Snyder has also been awarded the Bollingen Poetry Prize and the Robert Kirsch Lifetime Achievement Award. His 1992 collection, No Nature, was a National Book Award finalist, and in 2008 he received the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize. Snyder is a poet, environmentalist, educator and Zen Buddhist.
