The story begins with William and Eleanor Register (Redchester) Frazer from Shropshire, but it also weaves in Molly Morgan and Bill Morgan from Yorkshire. Their intertwined lives reveal insights into the social and cultural shifts during the early years of the Australian colony. One striking feature is that they witnessed many of the notable events in those early years. In particular, Nell Frazer found herself in a perhaps unique position in Australian colonial history. By chance, she was not only a witness to the early history of the colony, but she was also part of that history. She was the first European woman to hold land in her own name in the colony and thus in Australia. Nell Frazer was also the first woman to vote in Australia, some 206 years before women were legally permitted to vote.
