This quirky, humorous series follows a group of students at the Melissa Fitz Academy of Arts and Sciences (otherwise known as the Misfits Academy), all of whom have superhero abilities that most would consider useless. Each chapter features a mix of traditional narrative-style text mixed with several panels of bright, engaging, graphic novel-style illustrations and text bubbles. The characters are funny (one character can conjure Chicken Noodle Soup at any time; another can control the weather but only above his own head) and the storylines are exciting and compelling enough to keep young readers eagerly turning the pages and awaiting the next volume. ­VERDICT Recommended for most collections, particularly those where graphic novel hybrids are popular.
