Excerpt from The Land of Promise: Being an Authentic and Impartial History of the Rise and Progress of the New British Province of South Australia; Including Particulars Descriptive of Its Soil, Climate, Natural Productions, &C. And Proofs of Its Superiority to All Other British ColoniesThis volume was intended to be on a much smaller scale, so as to put it within the reach of the poor man. But the accumulation of important matter soon compelled the author to give up that idea. He therefore respectfully suggests to the wealthy friends of the colony the propriety of purchasing cepies of the Land of Promise for loan amongst the poorer classes in their immediate vicinities, and of placing them in the Mechanics' libraries of the several towns or villages in which they reside.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
