Taura Stinson is a Birmingham born, Oakland raised, LA based Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy nominated songwriter, composer, and author. Her work appears across film and television, with songs featured in Thelma the Unicorn, Rio 2, CARMEN, Cruella, Beyond the Lights, and BLITZ. She has collaborated with Nicholas Britell, Raphael Saadiq, Brittany Howard, and others whose work shapes contemporary cinema. Taura's songwriting is also heard in Men in Black, Mudbound, Don't Look Up, and STEP, along with series such as HARLEM, Reasonable Doubt, The L Word Generation Q, and Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, where she wrote the theme song. As a writer, Taura brings clarity, warmth, and lived experience to the page. She is the founder of Believe Become Books and the author of 100 Things Every Black Girl Should Know, winner of the In the Margins Award for at risk youth. Her upcoming projects explore healing, identity, resilience, and creative growth through literature, television, film, and stage. Taura's career reflects a deep commitment to community and creative leadership.
She serves as chair of the Black Caucus Affinity Group at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and as a board member of the Alliance for Women Film Composers, where she advocates for inclusion across the industry. She is currently writing and developing music forward content for television, film, and stage. Through Believe Become Books, Taura is building a publishing home for writers whose voices may otherwise go unheard, creating space for stories that affirm, uplift, and expand the world we share.
