Stay with Me is a romance novel with a time period in a dystopian version of England in the 90s. Humans had stranger lives, even though they didn't know it. Certain people are known as subjects and they are isolated from the rest of the world, being "enrolled in colleges". The subjects give their organs to humans in need and are taken care of by "watchmen"; essentially, subjects that have not yet donated any organs. The subjects are required to continue giving their organs until they can't any longer. The premise and narrative isn't explicitly known to the reader until a little while later. A narrator known as Mildred (a watchman) takes the reader through the journey; a journey in which she experiences certain vulnerabilities.
