Roberts is a woman trapped in a the wrong time. Set in the 1860's Roberta is a woman that desires to be independent, and live a life of her own. She weds a young man, and soon discoveries that he is a drunk. Trapped in a loveless marriage she looks for a way out. With the help of a friend she escapes the clutches of her deadbeat husband and starts a life of her own in the city. When word starts to spread about the coming Civil War, Roberta wants to help the cause for freedom. She dresses as a man and joins the Union Army.
