Jeni leaves her two young sisters in the care of her drunken father when she is swept off her feet in a whirlwind romance, but is plagued with guilt when the marriage turns sour and they all cascade into misery. Her brother-in-law helps her escape from her abusive marriage, but then events in his own life plunge him into the depths of despair.
