Julio Torres is an award-winning writer, director, comedian, and author from El Salvador. In 2023, he released his picture book, I Want to Be a Vase , illustrated by animator and designer Julian Glander and inspired by his HBO stand-up special My Favorite Shapes . The book takes readers on a visually stunning journey through the lives and intimate dramas of often-overlooked household appliances, blending humor, heart, and imagination. Most recently, Torres created, wrote, directed, and starred in the one-man show Color Theories , filmed during its sold-out Off-Broadway run and debuting as an HBO special. He also cocreated and starred in the Peabody Award-winning series Los Espookys and wrote, directed, and starred in HBO's Fantasmas, which also received a Peabody Award. Torres made his feature directorial debut with A24's Problemista and earned four Emmy® nominations for his work on Saturday Night Live . Across books, film, television, and the stage, he explores humor, absurdity, and the small, often-overlooked details of everyday life.
