Tim Trott spent his career running an alarm business and a website hosting company before discovering, sometime in his late seventies, what he actually wanted to be: a writer. He has been making up for lost time ever since. He came to fiction through nonfiction. His early titles include a biography of Talbert Gray, the first Black television reporter in Florida, and a biography of Kirby Grant, who played Sky King in the television series Trott grew up watching. He knew Grant and his wife Carolyn for fifteen years after they moved to Orlando, and wrote the book after Grant died in 1985 on his way to watch a Space Shuttle launch - at the invitation of astronauts who had grown up inspired by the same show. Trott also wrote about broken borders, WordPress, lottery patterns, treason, and drone certification, authoring a study guide that has helped train several hundred law enforcement officers. A writer's group in Daytona changed his direction. The group was writing fiction, so he started writing fiction.

When a fellow member suggested he expand some of his short stories into novels, he ran with it. His fiction centers on strong, intelligent female protagonists and tends to begin with a question: what if? What if a camera could see through time? What if an alien ran for political office? What if a coffee shop barista had psychic powers? His short story collections - What If, and its follow-up More Short Stories - gather years of those questions into one place. His novels, including The Psychic Barista, Due North, and the Star Child series, follow the same instinct into longer form. The Star Child series began with another question: what if two people carrying an alien genetic inheritance had children? What abilities might those children have? The series, grounded in real neurological and mitochondrial research, follows that question across three novels. Trott lives in Central Florida, with his wife of more than fifty years. He keeps a red-light pen and a notepad by the bed for ideas that arrive at three in the morning.
