Fintech, Digital Finance & the GCC: Navigating a New Era The Gulf Cooperation Council is at the forefront of a sweeping financial transformation -- driven by bold regulation, cutting-edge technology, and a clear vision for sustainable growth. This volume, originating from the Gulf Research Meeting (GRM) 2025 at the University of Cambridge, offers students and professionals a rigorous yet accessible window into that transformation. Drawing on empirical research across Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and beyond, the book examines the forces reshaping modern finance: open banking, digital literacy, financial inclusion, Shari'ah-compliant innovation, and smart contracts. Spanning economics, law, sustainability, and technology, it connects theory to real-world outcomes -- showing how the GCC navigates cybersecurity threats and cross-border regulatory complexity while positioning itself as a global leader in digital, sustainable finance. Dr. Konstantinos Tsanis is one of the most consequential practitioners in global FinTech today. He built Africa's first digital bank -- ALAT by WEMA -- and led FinTech investments at the IFC/World Bank Group, deploying capital and strategy across emerging markets. A published author, sought-after keynote speaker, and Adjunct Professor at Edinburgh, Hult, and INSEAD, he brings rare depth: academic rigour combined with proven execution at scale.

He currently advises FinTechs expanding across the Middle East and Africa -- the two fastest-growing digital finance frontiers in the world. PhD, University of Edinburgh. Dr. Ahmet Faruk Aysan is Professor and Associate Dean for Research at Hamad Bin Khalifa University and a full member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences. A former Board Member of the Central Bank of Türkiye, he has consulted for the World Bank and Oxford Analytica. His awards include the Arab Fintech Forum's Fintech Researcher of the Year (2023) and HBKU's Research Excellence Award (2024). Dr. Zhamal Nanaeva holds a PhD in Islamic Finance from HBKU and researches sustainability, FinTech, and emerging digital ecosystems at the Nordic Centre for Islamic Economy and Finance.

She has presented at Harvard, Durham, and FiNext conferences.
