Jonathan A. Veley has been an Ohio attorney in private practice since 1992. He began collecting fountain pens and mechanical pencils in 1999 and began writing about them at his now-defunct "Online Mechanical Pencil Museum" website in 2009.After the publication of his landmark book, The Catalogue of American Mechanical Pencils (2011), Veley started The Leadhead's Pencil Blog originally as an online update service for the book; in 2018, after a Google error wiped out many of images from the early years of the blog, he reduced all of its articles to a five-volume printed set, then added two additional volumes in 2020 and 2021.In addition to writing about pens and pencils, Veley acquired all of the remaining stock of mechanical pencil leads from the Panda Pencil Company in 2013 and founded the Legendary Lead Company in 2015, which sells specialized pencil leads to vintage mechanical pencil enthusiasts all over the world. In 2022, he also acquired the assets of the failed Autopoint Company, and he now manufactures pencils using Autopoint components featuring vintage-inspired engraved designs as the Legendary Pencil Company, LLC.
