All of her friends may fall prey to the Love Bug, but Venola vows that she won't. No sir. Not her -- not her, that is, until tall, dark, and handsome Nathan joins her class. She does her best to find out everything about him and to ascertain whether they might have a future together. But who can concentrate on love when your parents have just told you that they're expecting another baby? (Please, God, let it be a girl. Four nagging brothers is already enough!) Then Venola catches two of her friends shoplifting, and an absolutely disastrous class trip to Washington D.C., where Venola gets blamed for everything.

Life just keeps getting more and more complicated. But Venola Mae Cutright handles it all in her usual spunky manner and somehow manages to survive the seventh grade.
