Wallace D. (Delois) Wattles was an American Author. Wattles was considered a "New Thought" philosopher and writer. His writings have been widely quoted and remains in print in the New Thought, Law of Attraction, and Manifestation movements throughout the world. Wattles' best known work is his 1910 classic (this book) "The Science of Getting Rich" in which he explained from a "scientific" point of view how to become wealthy.He was known as a practical author. He encouraged his readers to test his theories and philosophies on themselves rather than take his word as an authority. Wattles claimed to have tested his methods over a decade on himself and others before publishing them.

Wattles studied the writings of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Georg Wilhelm, Friedrich Hegel, René Descartes and a few other major "thought philosophers" and recommended the study of their books to his readers who wished to understand how he came to his scientific method of understanding the subject of personal success.Wattles believed he had discovered the deep truth of New Thought principles and put them into practice in his own life. He continually wrote books outlining these principles and practices. His daughter Florence Wattles stated on record that "he lived every page" of his books.
