Cosette barely has time to recover from one situation when a team shows up supposedly sent by the President's Chief of Staff. They have a mission and require Cosette's cooperation. However, they make sure she understands they will forcibly take what they want if she refuses to give it freely.

As the internal struggle grows confrontational, an alien ship lands outside their cave with a stronger, better armed, type of alien she has never seen before. As it becomes clear the alien attack is forcing them deeper into the cave system, a mysterious alien vessel comes to their aid. As their benefactor reveals himself, the military team makes off with everything they want, causing a desperate chase across the country, putting her people in conflict with an invading enemy force. With Cosette's focus on protecting her people, a second wave of aliens threatens to bury them alive inside Site 57.
