In this, the sequel to An Italian Home - settling by Lake Como, English artist Paul Wright and his wife, Nicola have moved north to the prosperous, unspoilt village of Argegno. With the no-nonsense approach to life prevalent in his native Liverpool, Wright describes the adventures he has had in the course of his work of painting murals in the homes of the wealthy, getting a first hand insight into the psyche of the modern Italian male as he does so. Often, when he takes time out he joins a group of local retired villagers, to unearth the local gossip, discovering a few home truths about the older generation in the process. He takes a trip across the Atlantic to visit New York City and to paint a mural in the home of an American of Italian descent and gives his personal take on contemporary American life. Back home, he takes part again in the regular mangialonge, the famous "long eats", where he and his neighbours will spend a whole day feasting on the finest local food and wine. However the rice growers' annual frog eating festival turns out to be rather less enjoyable than anticipated! He rounds off with a reflection on the years he spent provide bed and breakfast accommodation in his home, describing the humorous and occasionally bizarre episodes that happened in that time.
