Moslais Xiong was born in Laos and came to St. Paul, MN in 1979 as a refugee of the Vietnam War. Growing up in the schools, she was told to only speak English. Lucky for Xiong and her ten siblings, her parents did not speak English and only spoke Hmong to them. They gave them the most precious gift of all-the gift of being bilingual. She wants to share that gift with everyone, especially with young children before their native language disappears. Xiong has been an elementary teacher for over 20 years with 17 years in the first ever Hmong Immersion Program in the world in the Saint Paul Public Schools District. She has lived in Minnesota, Texas, and Kansas.
She currently lives in the Twin Cities with her 3 daughters and son. She enjoys hiking, biking, sewing, gardening, and traveling to different countries to hear the many beautiful languages spoken around the world.
