Moslais Xiong was born in Laos and came to St. Paul, Minnesota in 1979 as a refugee of the Vietnam War with her family. Growing up in the schools, she was told to only speak English. Lucky for Xiong and her ten siblings, her parents only knew how to speak Hmong. So her parents only spoke Hmong to them. They gave her the most precious gift of all--the gift of being bilingual. She wants to share that gift with everyone, especially with young children so that they can be proud to speak their native language. Xiong has been teaching Hmong for over 17 years at Txuj Ci Lower Campus, in the first ever Hmong Immersion Program.
This is her first picture book. She currently lives in the Twin Cities with her four children. She enjoys hiking, biking, sewing, gardening, and traveling to hear the many beautiful languages spoken around the world.
