When our family cat Gigi, died suddenly one evening when my granddaughters were in bed, I had some dickens of a job explaining what had happened to her when they came down for breakfast. Death is a difficult subject for anyone to grasp, more especially children and so I came up with the story of The Cat and the Moon as the best way to explain to them the disappearance of Gigi. It tells of the travels of a small cat across the stars as she tries to make new friends with the animal constellations.
