This book offers a thorough and nuanced examination of restorative justice (RJ) as it unfolds across Chinese societies worldwide, where it has emerged as a dynamic and influential approach to conflict resolution. While RJ is still a relatively new concept globally, Chinese societies have developed some of the world's most extensive and diverse restorative justice programs, often regarded as an "oriental flower" rich with insights that could inform dialogue with Western RJ practices. Yet despite its growing prominence, RJ in Chinese contexts remains understudied, with many of its cultural, historical, and practical dimensions still awaiting deeper exploration. Jin Sun is Assistant Professor of Sociology, Executive Director of the Social Governance & Sustainable Development Lab, and Deputy Director of the Public Policy Research Center at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His articles appear in the American Journal of Sociology, Annual Review of Law and Social Science, Socio-Economic Review, Asian Journal of Criminology, Journal of Chinese Governance, Policing & Society, Crime & Delinquency, and other journals. He received the best article award in Political Economy of the World-System and the distinguished article (honorable mention) award in Economic Sociology from the American Sociological Association. Yan Zhang is Deputy Director of the Balzan Project at the Australian National University's School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet), where he earned his PhD in criminology. His research covers restorative justice, qualitative methods, regulation, governance, and environmental justice.

He is the Managing Editor of the Asian Journal of Criminology and an executive board member of the Asian Criminological Society.
