This new publication, a property law coursebook (as opposed to casebook), focuses on teaching the substance and analysis of property law problem-solving through the lens of academic support learning and teaching techniques. This focus involves the introduction and teaching of materials through not merely cases, but through fact patterns, performance tests, multiple-choice questions, worksheets, and application exercises. Students will learn by using primary source material and built-in formative exercises and feedback. This concrete, immersive experience will expose readers to a broader swath of legal problem-solving skills than traditional property law casebooks have been able to provide. This coursebook is unique in that it is explicit in its direction about how to obtain knowledge of the law and use it to solve property law problems, and it provides teachers with mechanisms that will give formative information to the students and allow the teacher to track individual student growth in their learning. As a result, student learning and retention will be strengthened, teaching will be more focused on student development, and students will be better prepared to use their newly developed skills in clinical and externship experiences, on the bar exam (both current and NextGen), and even in their first few years in practice. Further, use of this coursebook, with its explicit problem-solving instruction and use of practice-oriented material and documents, will lead more directly to development of practical lawyering skills.
