Taylan Akkaya is a highly regarded Professor of Anesthesiology and a dedicated Pain Physician at the Health Sciences University, Diskapi Training and Research Hospital, Ankara, where he also serves as the Director of the Pain Clinic. He earned his medical degree from Ankara University School of Medicine in 1984 and completed his anesthesia residency at Numune Training and Research Hospital in Ankara. Following his residency, he gained international experience at the Basingstoke District Hospital Pain Clinic in the United Kingdom. Prof. Akkaya's professional expertise focuses on regional anesthesia, anatomy, sonoanatomy, and ultrasound-guided pain interventions. Certified by the Algology Board of Turkey since 2011, he is an active member of several prestigious organizations, including International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), European Society of Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Therapy (ESRA) Turkish Society of Regional Anesthesia, Turkish Society of Algology, Turkish Anesthesiology & Reanimation Society, Turkish Neuromodulation Research and Education Society, with over 60 publications in international journals indexed by SCI/SCI-Expanded, Prof. Akkaya has made significant contributions to advancing pain management practices and education. D. from Ankara University School of Medicine in 2007 and subsequently completed his specialization in Anatomy at the same institution. In 2014, he pursued advanced training as a Research Fellow in Neurosurgical Anatomy at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), working under the mentorship of Dr. Juan C. Fernandez-Miranda at the UPMC Skull Base Center and Surgical Neuroanatomy Laboratory, Pittsburgh, USA. In 2016, he expanded his expertise as a visiting researcher at Salzburger Landeskliniken - Universitätsklinikum Salzburg, Austria, focusing on advanced studies at the Universitätsklinik für Hals-Nasen-Ohren-Krankheiten. Currently, Dr. Comert serves as Professor of Anatomy (since 2018) and Erasmus Coordinator at the School of Medicine (since 2013).


With a Web of Science (WoS) h-index of 23, he has authored or co-authored over 120 peer-reviewed international publications and contributed to eight book chapters. Dr.Comert is actively involved in professional organizations, including the European Association of Clinical Anatomy (EACA Counsellor),and as Auditing Board Member, Board Member, President of the Turkish Society of Anatomy and Clinical Anatomy (TSACA). He holds editorial roles as the Associate Editor for the Spine and Medulla section of Surgical and Radiological Anatomy and Frontiers in Neuroanatomy. Additionally, he serves on the editorial boards and as a reviewer for more than 20 national and international journals. Dr.Comert is a sought-after speaker, having presented at numerous international conferences,courses,and symposia. His primary research interests include Surgical Neuroanatomy, Spinal Anatomy, Bone-Implant Biomechanics, Clinical Anatomy, Sonoanatomy, Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine.
