Elena Blanco-Suarez, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Neuroscience and Neurological Surgery at the Vickie and Jack Farber Institute for Neuroscience in Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia. Isabella Farhy-Tselnicker, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology in Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas. Drs. Blanco-Suarez and Farhy-Tselnicker trained together as postdoctoral fellows, becoming experts in astrocyte-neuron interactions during development and synaptic maturation in mouse models. In 2020, both started their independent careers as Assistant Professors. Dr. Blanco-Suarez's research focuses on the study of astrocyte-mediated neuroplasticity in the context of ischemic stroke, while Dr. Farhy-Tselnicker's lab investigates astrocyte-neuron interactions necessary to shape synapse development and activity.

With this book, they brought in experts from across the globe to give current insights into how the crosstalk between astrocytes and neurons is essential for shaping the central nervous system and constitutes a very interesting target for future investigations in disease and injury.
