This resource discusses advancements in biotechnology to remediate toxic pollutants from wastewater caused by industries and human activities. The combination of better sensors and new water treatment technologies is a strong enabler for decentralised and diversified water treatment. The current state of the art and innovative research that will address these challenges, so that wastewater treatment systems can adapt for the future are discussed.
