Joanne Berry is Professor of Ancient History at Swansea University. She has published widely on Roman houses, Pompeii and Herculaneum, including the co-edited volume 'A Cultural History of the Home in Antiquity' (Bloomsbury, 2020). She is the author of the best-selling The Complete Pompeii (Thames and Hudson, 2007, 2013, new edition forthcoming). In addition to her research on the ancient world, she publishes on various aspects of learning, teaching, and student experience in universities and has been awarded Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy on account of her leadership activities in this field. Rebecca Benefiel (Ph.D. Harvard) is Professor of Classics at Washington & Lee University. She co-edited Inscriptions and the Epigraphic Habit: The Epigraphic Cultures of Greece, Rome, and Beyond (Brill, 2023) and Inscriptions in the Private Sphere in the Roman World (Brill 2016), and has published numerous articles concerning epigraphy, Pompeii, and Roman social history.
She has been President of the American Society of Greek and Latin Epigraphy, Visiting Professor at Sapienza University in Rome, invited research scholar at Universität Heidelberg, and honored with the Commonwealth of Virginia's Outstanding Faculty Award. She is Director of the Ancient Graffiti Project.
