R.Y. Givens is a former college football athlete who's been writing his entire life. However, his love for writing wasn't truly nurtured and cultivated until his junior year in college when, for a class presentation, he decided to write a poem entitled, "I Don't Want To Be Me." The silence of the class startled him to a point where he thought he did something wrong until he heard one student say, "Damn, that's real." After finally letting a small percentage of people see who he really was, he decided to take a slew of writing classes while at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he ended up writing screenplays, books, articles, poems, and everything that kept him connected to his creative spirit. Though he is very passionate about all forms of entertainment including music (both of his parents are singers), he is also a large advocate for mental, emotional, and spiritual healing, as well as physical health. Y. Givens is also a video editor, and live sports videographer for ESPN, ACC Network, UNC Chapel Hill, Duke University, Carolina Hurricanes, and North Carolina State University. He currently resides in Garner, North Carolina, and you can catch him playing tennis all around the Triangle.
