Laura is isolated in her family's castle, and her life is disrupted by the appearance of the enigmatic and alluring Carmilla. As the bond between the two women grows, so does Carmilla's affection for Laura, who becomes plagued by nightly visits from a strange woman. This sapphic vampire tale predates Bram Stoker's Dracula and is infused with passion that curdles into a mysterious plague afflicting young women. Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu's eerie gothic novella is a foundational classic of queer literature that paved the way for modern queer horror.
