Marc Levesque was an active New Mexico Search and Rescue (NMSAR) volunteer from 2006 to 2025, serving in a variety of roles from field team member to senior-level incident manager and NMSAR course instructor. For decades, he was an avid hiker and occasional climber in New England and New Mexico. He also once spent a year at the US South Pole Research Station and two austral summers at McMurdo Station in Antarctica. From 2019 to 2022, a lifelong fascination with outer space led him to the Mars Desert Research Station operated by The Mars Society in Utah, where he was commander of three six-person international crews. Long involved in outdoor education and training, Levesque was a certified instructor for the National Association of Search and Rescue and an adjunct faculty member at Western New Mexico University, where he also developed a student SAR team.
