There are many excellent Japanese language books on Kintsugi, including how-to guides that are easy to follow even with the language barrier; however, English-language books are non-existent. There are several stunning coffee table books on Kintsugi, but most do not have a detailed discussion on the history and philosophy of Kintsugi. Solitaire magazine had a fascinating article on it, and there have been a smattering of articles on the topic, but most have been non-academic and in luxury publications.Below comps are all either Jpns-language or OP (so no sales data avail.):The Art of Kintsugi: The Japanese art of repairing broken pottery that treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object by Sasakawa Yoshinari is a fine book on the topic, and gives step-by-step instructions; however, it does not veer into original uses for kintsugi, and some of the instructions are not clear in the descriptions, though it is a rare English-language book.Kintsugi no susume: Mono o taisetsu ni suru kokoro by Noriyo Ozawa is an excellent visual step-by-step book, but it is in Japanese, and stays true to the traditional methods. This is usually one of the books I recommend to students.Kintsugi ichinensei: hon'urushi de yakimono garasu shikki made naoshimasu by Toshihiko Yamanaka is also another excellent Japanese how-to guide with photographs, but it is not in English and is not geared to those who may not be familiar with the art form.

The Kintsugi Handbook by Kunio Nakamura is a basic book, also in Japanese, and while it is good, it is not intended for a Western audience. The Beginner's Guide to Japanese Urushi is a guide to the lacquer used in the process more than the kintsugi; however, it is not a clear or concise guide; however, it is a rare English-language book. Finally, The Joy Of Kintsugi: Urushi Lacquer Handbook by Yukiko Kuroda is a fine and concise Japanese guide to the art (and another one I recommend to students). However, as with the others, it is not in English, and it does not veer into more creative artistic endeavours with the art.
