Mark E. Squire was born in 1963 in the beautiful seaside town of Poole, Dorset, on England's south coast. Growing up surrounded by the natural beauty of the Jurassic Coast and the English countryside, he developed an early appreciation for both wildlife and photography. After moving to the United States, he has continued to pursue a lifelong passion for storytelling through both words and images. A photographer and author, Mark believes that the most powerful stories are often told without saying a word. His work has always sought to capture genuine emotion, whether through the lens of a camera or on the pages of a book. That passion ultimately inspired "The Dogs After Christmas", a project born not from statistics, but from compassion. Moved by the heartbreaking reality that countless dogs purchased or adopted during the holiday season are surrendered to shelters only weeks later, Mark sets out to create a book that would encourage preparation rather than impulse, understanding rather than judgment, and responsibility rather than regret.

Combining powerful photography with honest storytelling, the book shines a light on the challenges faced by rescue dogs while celebrating the remarkable dedication of shelter workers, volunteers, foster families, and adopters who give abandoned animals a second chance. Mark is a passionate advocate for responsible dog ownership and believes that every family deserves the knowledge to choose the right companion before bringing a dog home. His hope is that "The Dogs After Christmas" will help reduce unnecessary shelter surrenders, encourage thoughtful decision-making, and inspire greater compassion for dogs whose only mistake was being the right dog in the wrong home. When he is not writing, photographing, or developing new creative projects, Mark continues to explore ways to educate prospective dog owners through technology, visual storytelling, and charitable initiatives supporting animal rescue organizations. He believes every dog deserves not just a home, but a forever home, and hopes this book leaves readers with a deeper understanding of the lifelong commitment that every dog deserves.
