How Riley Rescued the Huffy Woofer is the story of six-year-old Riley, who is not yet able to ride a bike yet or read, and is often feeling left out when his brother William and his friends are playing together. One day, the older children leave him behind, and Riley becomes lost in the woods. While in the woods, he stumbles upon a bulldog chained to a tree and meets his friends Pam and Sam. The two girls tell him the bulldog is pregnant but that they are keeping her hidden because they want a bulldog puppy. They swear him to secrecy, but Riley knows he has to tell someone because the bulldog mother will need help to have her litter safely. Yet, how can he tell the truth to his parents when he has made a promise to his friends not to? Riley is forced to choose between keeping a dangerous secret and telling the truth to his parents, he relies on his faith in God to do the right thing. This story teaches children the value of truthfulness when Riley experiences peer pressure to keep something from his parents, and it will provide parents and children with the opportunity to talk about the issues of truthfulness and friendship as Riley tries to resolve his dilemma.
