A graphic novel for ages 9-12 about an Indigenous boy who learns to use his voice to stand up for what he believes in, ultimately inspiring youth to become agents of change in their own communities. This book connects to current movements of youth activism in the wake of the efforts of youth activists such as Greta Thunberg, David Hogg, Autumn Peltier, and Malala Yousafzai. Themes of finding the courage to speak back to "power," especially from a perceived perspective of social powerlessness (youth). This book is in a similar vein to We Need Everyone by Michael Redhead Champagne, a picture book aimed at a younger audience which will release earlier in 2024. Author is an award winning filmmaker and has appeared as a panelist at San Diego Comic Con (2018) and New York Comic Con (2019) where she spoke on the importance of Indigenous media representation in science fiction and horror. Sonya was also named a Barbie Role Model by Mattel. At age 28, the subject of this book, Michael Redhead Champagne, was recognized by Time magazine as a next-generation world leader (2015). This is a beautifully illustrated full-colour graphic novel that features immersive and fluid double page spreads that showcase the wonder and freedom of childhood.
