Oki, My name is Darrell Hall. My Blackfoot name is Spoo-Mok-ii-Tok meaning Helping Rock. I was born and raised on the Blackfeet reservation as an outdoors man, rancher, and horseman. I grew up on a place called Badger Creek, where I learned to take care of the land knowing that our livelihood depended on a good, clean, healthy environment for our food and livestock. At a young age I understood that if you take care of the land, the land will take care of you. I learned to survive in an outdoor environment with harsh winters and long, hot summers, knowing where to hunt, fish, and eat berries. One of the key things I had to know was where all the springs and good watering holes were. Being on horseback, water was a key thing to know about.

I have been heavily involved in our Blackfoot Ceremonial ways since I was about 27 years old and I am now 48. I was the leader of the Brave Dog Society in Aamskapi Piikuni for 10 years and have helped all societies and Medicine bundles since I was a young man. My latest work was as a Chief Mountain Guardian Shield Keeper. We implemented Blackfoot culture into environmental work and brought the culture to our people to help in bringing back our identity as Niisitapii.
