The number, nature and range of the contributions bears witness to the multi-faceted importance of religion in Hispanic Literature and culture and to the recognition of this in current research in Hispanic Studies. The papers show the continuing preoccupation with religion; in some works through the incorporation of religious themes and imagery which affect their form and content; in others through their embodiment and expression of religious convictions and views which reinforce the dominant culture; yet in others, through the ways in which that culture is challenged and subverted by the transgression of established religious ideas and principles. This volume will encourage further exploration and exchange of ideas on this vast and immensely rich field.
