A different kind of haunting¿ The old Victorian house lurked behind a tall privacy fence and scrub trees, concealing decades of neglect and untold secrets. The weathered siding, broken gingerbread, and boarded-over windows made it a perfect setting for a ghost story. No one warned Rick that the house was haunted before he agreed to renovate it. In a hidey-hole in a bedroom closet, he finds four tattered notebooks-journals from the 1970's, an account of eight young people trapped by the house in a Twilight Zone scenario, their lives playing out through the journal while the rest of the world moves on: curious teenagers explore the house, vagrants try to live there, Rick and his workmen wreak havoc and eventually restore it to pristine beauty. Rick assumes the notebooks are fiction-an early draft of a novel. But as work on the house progresses, events from Rick's world enter the story. And elements of the story seep into his reality.
