Operation DESERT STORM and the liberation of Kuwait in 1991 will be long remembered as one of the greatest feats in modern military history. Gerges, who went on to complete a full military career and then became a trained military historian, provides an up-close and personal account, not just of the attack into Kuwait, but also of all the training, preparation, deployment, and post-conflict activities that made up the operation from start to finish. It is an eloquent story of American soldiers, how they prepare for war, and what happens when the mission they have trained for becomes real. This extremely well-written book is highly recommended for anyone wanting to understand what going to war means for our soldiers and their families back home.
