The Butts Family: Our Roots Run Deep preserves the history of the descendants of Junious Butts of Southampton County, Virginia. Beginning with the family's earliest documented roots and following six branches across generations, this 2026 Family Reunion Edition brings together genealogical records, family photographs, personal memories, migration stories, tributes, and accounts of faith, military service, education, enterprise, and community life. From the rural communities of Southampton and Sussex counties to Hampton Roads, Buffalo, Baltimore, and beyond, the family's journey reflects perseverance, hard work, love, and the enduring strength of kinship. These pages honor those who came before us, celebrate the generations living today, and preserve their names and stories for children, grandchildren, and generations still to come. Compiled and edited by Charlene Butts Ligon, with photographs, memories, records, and family information contributed by descendants, this volume is more than a genealogy. It is a family keepsake filled with the people, places, traditions, accomplishments, and everyday experiences that shaped the Butts family. It is also an invitation to continue the work: identify the photographs, record the memories, share the stories, and strengthen the relationships connecting every branch of the family tree. Our roots run deep, but our family tree is still growing.
